You’re going to the salon.  You want hair that says you can take on anything. But after your appointment, you come home with a style that says to forget taking on anything. Just go take a nap. Ever had that happen? I have.

If this kind of experience sounds too familiar, then it might be time to find a new Kelowna hair salon.

It isn’t easy. How can you know, until you sit in the chair, whether you’re in the right place?

First, let’s be honest—you can never be 100% positive about whether a relationship—even with someone who does your hair—will work out. But with the following tips, you have a good chance of finding a hair salon you can count on.

5 TIPS FOR FINDING A KELOWNA HAIR SALON

1.LOOK THEM UP ONLINE

What do they have to say for themselves? Do they have pictures?

 Before and after pictures can tell a lot

• What do they focus on
• Trending styles
• Did colors and cuts flatter
• Was everything well done

2.GET RECOMMENDATIONS

Granted, most of us have been staying pretty close to home for a while. So make social media help out. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter—wherever you go online to keep in touch, ask who people like to go to for hair care in your area.

3.DO SOME RESEARCH: HAVE THEY DONE YOUR TYPE OF HAIR BEFORE?

If a 55-year old walks into a salon that is all about styling Zoomers, you might get what you want…and….you might not.

4.ASK IF THEY WILL DO A FREE CONSULTATION

If they won’t, that’s a red flag.

If the salon agrees to a free consultation, here are some things you might like to check out:

a.Which stylist will be working on my hair?  Just because a salon is good doesn’t mean the stylist is. So find out who you would be trusting your hair to.

b.Does the stylist have training?  Often, this is left out of the conversation, but it can be important. Levels of certification: Level 2: Takes two years to achieve.  Minimum standard for a person to be able to cut or color hair without supervision. Level 3: Takes three years to complete. Senior Stylist Level 4: This means they learned how to run a business. Level 3 and Level 4 are about equal as far as competency as a stylist.

c.Ask about Products, Trends, Practices

If your hair is curly but limp, can they tell you what products would work for you?

Do they know what styles are “in” for the moment, and which looks will be around for a while?

Do they offer a patch test when they color your hair?

Can they offer advice on what would look good on you, and why?

d.Ask for a blow dry test.

It’s best to have the consultation on a day other than the day of your hair appointment, so it doesn’t seem so long.

5. Make sure the stylist listens

Talk to them. Observe. Are they paying attention? Your hair says a lot about you. So, when you go to the hair salon, make sure you get what you want.
